The fight against financial crime and corruption in Africa will take center stage as Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), is set to deliver the Realnews 13th Anniversary Lecture, reports ITREALMS.
The high-profile event, hosted by Realnews Magazine Online, will focus on the critical theme: “Cybersecurity, Illicit Financial Flows and Achieving Agenda 2063 in Africa.”
The lecture will be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria, on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, starting at 10:00 AM. The event will be chaired by Hon. Justice Ayotunde Phillips, former Chief Judge of Lagos State.
Dr. Aliyu’s lecture is highly anticipated, given his impactful background and recent work at the anti-graft agency. Appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on October 17, 2023, Dr. Aliyu is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria who attained the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) just before his appointment.
Before leading the ICPC, Dr. Aliyu served as the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice in Jigawa State, where he spearheaded major justice sector reforms, including the establishment of a public complaints and anti-corruption commission. His tenure at the ICPC has been marked by a strong emphasis on rule-of-law compliance and ethical standards, which has garnered respect and attracted critical high-level partnerships. Dr. Aliyu holds a Ph.D. in Law from Universiti Utara, Malaysia, and has a rich academic history, including service as a lecturer and publishing research in national and international journals.
The chosen theme addresses the urgent need for African nations to combat digital crime and the massive drain of resources through illicit financial flows (IFFs), which severely undermine the continent's ability to achieve the African Union’s Agenda 2063 goals for a prosperous and integrated Africa.
Hon. Justice Ayotunde Phillips, who will serve as the event chairperson, will also moderate the subsequent panel session, bringing decades of judicial experience to the dialogue.
