Former acting DG of NiTDA, Dr. Ashiru Sani Daura is dead - ITREALMS

The former acting Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Dr. Ashiru Sani Daura, is dead, reports 
ITREALMS.

According to a very close family source, the former acting DG died at the hours of today, Saturday, April 24, 2021.


The source also confirmed to 
ITREALMS that late Dr. Daura died at Shika Teaching Hospital in Zaria.

Equally a Short Messaging Service (SMS) sighted by 
ITREALMS read in part:

"Inna lillahi wa inna ilahir Rajiun. With heavy heart and full gratitude to Allah, I announced to you the death of Dr ASHIRU Sani Daura at Shika teaching hospital Zaria. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace Ameen."

ITREALMS recalls that late Dr. Daura mostly described as a quiet and active personality, was the Director, Software and Outsourcing department at NITDA before he was named the acting DG of the agency in 2013.

Also recalled was that he took over from Prof. Cleopas Angaye who had served the maximum term of eight years in office as prescribed by NITDA ACT 2007 and was later replaced by a substantive DG with the appointment of Mr. Peter Jack in 2014.

Daura was until his death held in high esteem by several associates as an extremely humble academic, researcher and technocrat. 

He obtained a BSc in Electrical Computer Engineering from King Abdul Azeez University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 1984; Masters in Computer Vocational Education M.Ed. from the Colorado State University (CSU) in 1990; and a PhD, Digital Signal Processing, University of Newcastle, United Kingdom in 1998.

Prior to joining NITDA, late Dr. Daura had worked at the Nigeria Defence Academy now Nigeria Defence Academy University as the Head of Department, Electrical and Electronics and later; Dean, Faculty of Engineering.

He joined NITDA in 2005 as the Director, Zonal Coordination and three years later, by 2008, he worked at the agency as Director, Technical Services which later rejig became the Infrastructure and Capacity Development (ICD) department, even as at 2011, he was posted to lead the Software and Outsourcing department.

"NITDA, he said, is looking forward to collaborating with other states across the country to develop their respective IT policies, stressing that this year alone, more of such collaboration should be expected before the end of this fiscal year," Daura told DigitalSENSE Business News, a sister publication of 
ITREALMS in 2013.
