The Director, Special Duties at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Engr Oluwaseun Asaju, has stressed the importance of the Emergency Communications Centre (ECC), reports ITREALMS.
Asaju made this known in a chat with newsmen monitored by ITREALMS and said that NCC’s Emergency Communication Centres are very important for the security of lives and properties In Nigeria.

He noted that the purpose of the emergency communication centres by NCC is to create a platform upon which Nigerians can access a toll free, 112 services.

“Before now the project has been moribund, so we have to give kudos to the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta for making the 19 ECCs functional and operational,” he said.

Pointing out that as it stands today, “the 19 ECC centres are operational.”

As said by him, the ECC is to provide a harmonised network that all citizens of Nigeria can use to access their networks for saving lives when it matters, describing it as one-stop shop for emergencies.

“ECC is a one-stop for emergencies,” he declared, emphasising that once any call is received it would be dispatched immediately to the responsible agencies that would come to the rescue of anyone in need of help.

In democracy, he said, one of the key issues is security and what ECC tends to achieve is to boost security in the country with adequate tools.
