N15.75m up for grabs @ 2020 NCS-Jim Ovia Scholarships - ITREALMS

Stage is set for some 35 students to hustle for the 2020 Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) and Jim Ovia Scholarships fund worth N15.75m, reports 
ITREALMS.

According to NCS National President, Prof. Adesina Sodiya revealed this to correspondents at a press conference recently in Lagos at NCS headquarters, just as he applauded Mr. Jim Ovia for the consistency in supporting this scholarships over the years.
“The amazing Mr Jim Ovia has again funded scholarship awards this year as always every year to 35 students studying Computer and IT related courses in Nigeria Universities,” he declared. 

As said by him, this fund is in line with his commitment at the 2015 NITMA event, where he committed N15.75million to the scheme and also in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and now again in 2020. 

“The entire NCS membership is grateful for his kind, noble and generous heart. His dedication to IT education and human capital building is undeniable and worthy of emulation. May God continue to keep and bless him,” he prayed. 

In addition, Sodiya said, the Interest Groups within the NCS will also present their awards within their areas of specialty. 

Prof. Sodiya equally noted that IT is critical to enabling economic recovery and growth as well as achieving sustainable development. 

“All who desire progress should work with NCS to recognize, honour and reward those that are doing great work,” he said, stressing that the Nigeria’s society not just NCS should reward them for their impact, service and untiring efforts. 

“We must encourage those in our environment who are using their knowledge, creativity and resourcefulness to develop local tech solutions that are so essential to the drive for socio economic, growth, recovery and development. NCS calls on you to celebrate them because this is about progress and the future of our nation. 

“The NITMA event is a strong and purposeful indication of our commitment to celebrating talent and highlighting the innovation, excellence, vision, and dedication of individuals and organizations within the IT industry and community. 

“NCS appreciates all its members and strategic partners who have been supporting the realization of the NCS mission and vision. The media comes in for special mention. You are to be saluted for your interest and commitment to this most worthy cause. 

Just as in adherence to COVID-19 protocols, the attendance to 2020 NITMA prize scheduled for MUSON Centre on Thursday, November 26, is strictly by invitation. 

Equally at the press conference included the NCS Deputy President, Dr. Mohammad Sirajo Aliyu, chairman, NITMA Organizing Committee, Mr. Femi Williams and Executive Secretary, Mr. Iyiola Ayola.
