Olufuye, AfICTA chair tasks AU on tech tax holidays

Chairman, Africa Information and Communication Technology Alliance (AfICTA), Dr. Jimson Olufuye, has tasked members of the African Union (AU) to offer tax holidays on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector, especially for startups which are made up youths trying their hands in entrepreneurship, reports ITRealms.

Speaking at the just concluded 2016 edition of AfICTA summit in Windhoek, Namibia in a session with African ICT Ministers and heads of IT agencies, ITRealms gathered that Olufuye tasked participants on creating enabling environment for ICT Startups on the continent by extending tax holidays to this critical subsector.

He stressed that requisite enabling environment based on tax holidays has the capability of providing providing financing aligned to different categories of contract works and deliverables, including removal of visa restrictions for Africans to enhance investment and trade across the region.

The 2016 summit ITRealms gathered, has the theme “Internet of Things for Sustainable Development” and was intended to stimulate milestones that are strategic to changes in the world, as well as in agreement with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be realized by the year 2030.


ITRealms recalls that 2016 marks the 4th AfICTA Summit which held between October 11 through  14th in Windhoek, Namibia, under the auspices of the ICT Professionals' Association of Namibia (ICT-PAN) and the Ministry of ICT, Namibia.
