N16m Scholarship fund: Jim Ovia redeems pledge to NCS

The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has acknowledged the redemption of the N16 million scholarship pledge made by the Chairman of Zenith Bank Plc, and Cyber Space Ltd, Mr Jim Ovia, reports ITRealms.

NCS president, Prof. Sola Aderounmu confirmed this to ITRealms on Tuesday, noting tht the pledge was made on November 2015, at NCS organised annual National Information Technology Merit Awards to celebrate, recognise and award medals to every worthy professional in the IT industry.

He pointed out that mr. Ovia, who is a fellow of NCS had announced at the aforementioned event including the SGF, Mr. Babachir David Lawal, the largesse of scholarship award to ICT students in Nigeria tertiary institutions.

Ovia, he also said promised automatic employment in Zenith Bank Plc and Cyber Space Ltd to whosoever graduated with second class upper division in ICT annually.

“We wish Jim Ovia, Zenith Bank Plc, Cyber Space Ltd and Nigeria Computer Society, long Live,” he declared.

ITRealms gathered that the NCS scholarship scheme is one of the corporate responsibilities geared towards mentoring and monitoring Nigeria youths for ICT sustainability.

The programme which commenced four years ago has seen NCS annually awarding scholarships to discerning students across the country base on some established criteria.

He quoted Mr. Ovia as proclaiming that the scholarship will be awarded to 5 Phd Students, 10 Masters Degree Students and 20 Under Graduate Students across all categories of tertiary institutions in Nigeria, covering Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education nationwide and students pursuing relevant courses outside the country.


Prof. Aderounmi on behalf of the National Executive Council of Nigeria Computer Society, appreciated Mr. Ovia’s “uncommon gesture and pray that the Almighty God will continue to uphold our benefactor.”
