Anambra: Hope rises on relocation of 47 Boko Haram inmates

The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has assured that the relocation of Boko Haram from the Ekwulobia Prison in Aguata Local Government Area of the State is in sight, reports ITRealms.


Speaking after a closed door session with members of the 7-man delegation from the National Security Adviser (NSA) at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia in Anambra State, Gov. Obiano commended the people of the state for remaining calm and standing out enmasse to condemn the relocation of the 47 Boko Haram convicts to Ekwulobia.


ITRealms also reports that the meeting which attracted highly profile citizens of the state was summoned at the instance of the Presidency.


ITRealms recalls that the Presidency was undauted with reports of protests and agitations by traders, the South East Traders, South East Governors, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Aka Ikenga, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers, Association of Town Unions, civil society groups who stood with one voice against the transfer of the high-risk inmates from northern Nigeria to Ekwulobia.


Gov. Obiano told newsmen at the end of the meeting that he was optimistic the 47 inmates will soon be moved away from the state, expressing happiness over the calmness NdiAnambra have exhibited.


He described the meeting successful, maintaining that the matter would be resolved in no distance time.


Those at the meeting included the Obi of Onitsha, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Igwe Nnemeka Achebe, the Igwe of Umuoji, HRH Cyril Enweze, the Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev. Paulinus Okafor, the Anglican Bishop of Awka, Rt. Rev. Dr. Alexander Ibezim, the Anambra State Chairman of CAN, Apostle Theo Okpala, Akudolu Gozie, Coordinator South East Traders Association, Okwudili Ezenwankwo, President General AMATAS, Dr. Jude Okolo, National President ASATU and Barr. Ephraim Ilozumba, National Legal Adviser ASATU, Governor Obiano explained that the Presidency was fully aware of the strong feelings of Ndi Anambra against the presence of the high risk prisoners while looking forward to their relocation out of the state.
