IBM picks Ghana, 15 others for global smart city projects



Information Technology titan, the International Business Machines (IBM) has picked Ghana as the only Africa country to benefit from its global Smart Cities initiative, reports ITRealms.

Ghana selection, ITRealms gathered, would be sited at Sekondi and is coming on the heels of 15 others including Surat, Allahabad, Vizag in India; Amsterdam (Netherlands), Athens (Greece), Denver, Detroit, Memphis, Rochester (New York) in the US, Melbourne (Australia), San Isidro (Peru), Santiago (Chile), Taichung (Taiwan), Xuzhou and Huizhou (China)

Also, ITRealms reports that the programme entails that IBM will send a team of experts to each of the selected cities for three weeks. 


On the other hand, the IBM team would work closely with local staff to analyze data on critical issues faced by local bodies.

Further reports by ENN anticipates that the initiative would address challenges such as waste and disaster management and citizen services to name a few.
