8-member Malaysian scholars visits Omatek

Eight-man delegation from the Open University of Malaysia (OUM) and Accra Institute of Technology (AIT) last weekend visited Omatek Ghana factory in Accra, Ghana.

The visit was to allow the delegation acquaint themselves with the state-of-the-art factory and its capacity to deliver quality and affordable laptops and desktop computers for students of AIT, the Open University of Malaysia’s partner Institution.

Conducting the visitors round the Omatek factory, the Group Managing Director, Omatek Computers Ghana Ltd, Mrs. Florence Seriki, said that AIT and Omatek are in partnership which has led to the establishment of an Omatek Engineering Centre in the institution to enable the students have hands-on experience.

Mrs. Seriki also said, the partnership between the two institutes will promote e-learning and technological uptake among youths in the country.

She further said Omatek would continue to absorb students for industrial training as part of its efforts to improve knowledge gap.

In his address, President, Accra Institute of Technology, Prof. Clement Dzidonu, described Omatek Computers as a strategic company that will play an important role in the ICT development of Ghana.

Also, he said that the company will “provide the necessary IT tools which are pivotal to undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs under the open/distant learning academic system.”

For the Vice Chancellor, Open University of Malaysia, Prof. Anuwar, said the delegation was impressed with the production process, especially the quality assurance aspect of the factory.

He, therefore, urged Omatek not to relent in its efforts at providing quality products, especially for the Education sector.
