ngPIF 2026: Industry giants gather in Lagos to reshape Nigeria’s internet backbone - ITREALMS

Nigeria’s digital infrastructure ecosystem has arrived at a pivotal juncture as regulators, network operators, Internet service providers, data centers, and technology leaders prepare to gather in Lagos for the 2026 Nigerian Peering and Interconnection Forum (ngPIF), reports ITREALMS.

Scheduled for October 28–29, 2026, the two-day forum holding at Marriot Hotel, Joel Ogunaike Ikeja-Lagos, will focus on fortifying Internet peering, optimizing local traffic exchange, and engineering the resilient backbones required to power Nigeria’s accelerating digital economy.

The high-level event is convened by the Nigerian Network Operators Group (ngNOG) in collaboration with the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Underscoring the urgency of the gathering, Convenor of ngNOG, Prof. Adewale Adedokun, noted that Nigeria must adopt a more strategic framework for routing Internet traffic, hosting digital content, and optimizing interconnection architecture.

“As Nigeria’s digital economy continues to expand, we must pay closer attention to the infrastructure and interconnection arrangements that underpin it. Keeping more traffic local, strengthening peering, and improving access to resilient infrastructure are critical to building a faster, more efficient, and sustainable Internet ecosystem,” Prof. Adedokun said.

He emphasized that ngPIF 2026 provides a platform for stakeholders across the digital ecosystem to transcend isolated dialogue and forge actionable solutions to shared infrastructure bottlenecks.

The forum will unite telecommunications executives, network engineers, ISP leadership, cloud providers, content delivery networks, and regulatory authorities to deliberate on core industry pillars, including domestic traffic localization, sub-regional connectivity, data center integration, and regulatory alignment.

Additionally, delegates will evaluate the evolving national digital landscape and assess strategic initiatives designed to expand broadband reach while protecting critical national infrastructure.

Prof. Adedokun highlighted that cross-sector collaboration remains indispensable to meeting the surging capacity demands driven by high-volume content consumption, cloud migration, and emerging technologies.

“No single player can address these challenges alone. Operators, data centers, content providers, regulators, IXPs, and technology companies must work together to create an environment where digital services can be delivered efficiently and reliably from within Nigeria,” he said.

The two-day agenda will feature empirical research presentations, technical deep-dives, fireside chats, and expert panels targeting the structural requirements for Nigeria's next growth phase.

By prioritizing the localization of Internet traffic and digital hosting, industry leaders aim to lower latency, reduce international bandwidth costs, and bolster the operational resilience of Nigeria’s overarching Internet ecosystem.

ITREALMS recalls that the Nigerian Peering and Interconnection Forum (ngPIF) serves as the primary national platform for strategic dialogue and technical collaboration among stakeholders across Nigeria’s Internet and digital infrastructure ecosystem. The forum brings together network operators, service providers, data center operators, content networks, technology firms, and regulatory bodies to advance Internet connectivity, local peering, and critical infrastructure expansion.
