Efforts to safeguard critical national assets received a significant boost over the weekend as operatives of the Lagos State Police Command arrested five suspected telecommunication vandals and intercepted a truckload of stolen iron rods along the Ibeju-Lekki corridor, reports ITREALMS Online.
The suspects, namely Mohammed Shaibu (26), Musa Zakari (29), Abdullahi Bala (22), Salisu Musa (18), and Yahuza Bala (20); were caught red-handed while conveying stolen iron poles meant for telecommunications mast construction in a commercial truck.
The successful bust was achieved through a joint operational synergy between the Command and the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army.
ITREALMS Online gathered that all five suspects are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, where a discreet investigation is underway to track down fleeing accomplices and uncover the full network behind the operation.
Reiterating the Command’s zero-tolerance policy for infrastructure sabotage, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the police's commitment to protecting the state's digital assets.
