Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, has accepted to chair the 10th Annual Conference of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), scheduled for Thursday, October 8, 2026, in Lagos, reports ITREALMS.
According to Iyanda, this landmark gathering will center around the theme "2027 Elections: Trust, Transparency and Shared Responsibilities"; a topic that arrives at a critical juncture as national political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the next general elections.
He emphasized that the theme reflects the urgent need for robust institutions, accountable political leadership, an informed electorate, and a vigilant press to preserve public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic processes.
"The conference will provide a platform for thoughtful engagement on how government, political actors, the media, and civil society can work together to promote transparency and protect the integrity of Nigeria's electoral process," Iyanda stated.
Describing Agbakoba as an exceptional choice to preside over the proceedings, Iyanda noted that few individuals have contributed as consistently to Nigeria's legal development, institutional reform, and constitutional democracy. Over several decades, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria has earned widespread national and international respect as a jurist, public intellectual, and human rights defender, making him uniquely suited to steer discussions on democratic accountability.
The 2026 conference holds added significance as it marks the 10th anniversary of GOCOP's annual summit, which has evolved into one of Nigeria's premier intellectual platforms for high-level dialogues on governance, public policy, digital media, and national development.
