NGE-Jakande Lecture 2026: All roads lead to Sheraton - ITREALMS

All roads lead to the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, today, July 23, 2026, as media executives, policymakers, civil society leaders, and academia converge for the 4th Lateef Jakande Memorial Lecture organized by the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), reports ITREALMS.

Starting at 11:00 AM, this prestigious annual event honors the enduring legacy of the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande; pioneer NGE President, former Lagos State Governor, and former Minister of Works, while tackling critical national discourse on governance and the role of the press.

This year's lecture is centered on the theme "The Media, INEC, Voters and Path to Credible Elections," addressing vital pillars of Nigeria's democratic process. 

Professor Sylvester Odion Akhaine of the Department of Political Science, Lagos State University (LASU), delivers the keynote address, bringing deep academic and civic insight to the discussion.

The event boasts high-level leadership with former Ekiti State Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi serving as the event Chairman, alongside Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu gracing the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour.

True to the Guild's tradition, journalism and mass communication students from prominent institutions are also in attendance, providing a valuable mentorship platform for students to connect with veteran professionals and draw inspiration from industry role models.
