Last Sunday, June 21, 2026, marked a historic milestone for the Catholic Men Organisation (CMO) at St. Jude Parish, Mafoluku-Oshodi, Lagos. In a landmark collaboration with the Missionary Childhood Association (MCA), the parish successfully hosted the 2026 CMO One-Day Chairman Initiative, themed "Mentoring Tomorrow’s Catholic Leaders Today."
A process rooted in excellence:
The initiative, a key component of the roadmap set by the CMO Parish Chairman, Ogbuefi Chinenyeze Remmy Nweke, KSM, upon assuming office, was anchored on the pillars of Faith, Fraternity, and Family.
Liturgical & Administrative Discipline: Invoking Articles 77 and 78, he set into immediate effect fines for lateness (₦200.00) and improper attire/absenteeism (₦500.00) to ensure the sons being mentored observe a standard of order.
Health Optimization for Our Elders: Utilizing the ₦50,000 prize awarded to the parish by LACMON, Master Omenna proposed an expansion of the fund to support health insurance for elderly and indigent members, with each of the four groups nominating three beneficiaries for a cover worth ₦15,000 each.
Following the address, the young Chairman successfully called for a motion of affirmation, led by Sir Isaac Tony Ogidi, with the general house responding with a resounding "Aye," officially adopting the resolutions into immediate effect.
A legacy of impact:
This initiative went beyond the one-day role. Participants were awarded official certificates and prizes, with consolation prizes for those outside the top three, ensuring every participant felt valued.

To ensure a merit-based selection, a scheme of work was provided to the MCA, focusing on the universal Church, the parish, and our Catholic faith. After an initial MCA-led screening, the top five candidates underwent rigorous oral, quantitative, and essay exercises.

During the Mass, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Patrick Okoye, OP, presided over the celebration and the formal investiture of the winner, Master Benedict Omenna. In his charge to the young leader, Fr. Patrick encouraged Master Omenna to be courageous in presiding over the meeting and to report back any instances of disobedience.
