To eradicate water poverty and strengthen institutional governance, Fairaction Nigeria has officially inaugurated its National Advisory Board, reports ITREALMS.
The ceremony, held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the organization’s headquarters in Bodija, Ibadan, marks a transition from localized interventions in Oyo State to a broader national scaling of climate-resilient water solutions.
Delivering the inauguration speech, the National Coordinator of Fairaction Nigeria, Dr. David Tola Winjobi, noted that the organization is mirroring Ibadan’s legacy as a "city of firsts."

He highlighted that Fairaction is the first NGO to deploy Sustainable Smart Water Infrastructure (SWI); a climate-resilient, solar-powered technology—in several communities across Oyo State, including Isale Oja, Alabata, Boni, Apapa, and Araromi/Abeku.

"The inauguration of this board is a signal that Fairaction Nigeria is ready to see beyond its current vision in Oyo State and locate this Smart Water Infrastructure in other parts of the federation."
The organization revealed an ambitious roadmap that includes a comprehensive water mapping research project spanning all 33 local government areas (LGAs) of Oyo State. The objective is to provide development partners and the government with reliable data to inform critical policy decisions.
Furthermore, Fairaction confirmed its partnership with the DAWN Commission to host the Southwestern Nigeria Water Summit, an initiative aimed at aligning stakeholders toward universal clean water access.
Addressing the newly appointed members, Dr. Winjobi clarified that the Advisory Board's role is distinct from a Governing Board of Directors. Members will provide strategic guidance, specialized knowledge, and door-opening networks without the burden of legal liability or day-to-day management responsibilities.
The Board’s strategic focus will cover technical oversight; reviewing project designs in water engineering and public health (WASH). Accountability, including strengthening the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) framework; Resource mobilization by advising on donor engagement and the prudent management of resources; and crisis management, which entails providing impartial advice during funding gaps or community disputes.
The board, ITREALMS gathered, comprises a diverse array of professionals, including chartered accountants, civil society actors, and media engineers.
Dr. Winjobi emphasized that the fusion of these backgrounds is essential for the scientific and infrastructural complexity of Smart Water projects.
"This board represents a promise that Fairaction Nigeria will continue to operate with integrity and professionalism," Winjobi concluded.
"Water is life, fulfilling SDG 6, but partnership is the engine that sustains it, as envisioned in SDG 17. Together, we are building a lasting partnership for clean water and WASH to contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development."
