FirstBank, West Africa’s premier financial institution and a leader in financial inclusion services, has officially confirmed the appointment of Olayinka Ijabiyi as its substantive Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications, reports ITREALMS.

The appointment, which takes immediate effect, reinforces the bank’s commitment to strong corporate governance at a pivotal moment in its ongoing growth and organizational transformation journey.
Ijabiyi, a highly accomplished professional, boasts over 25 years of extensive experience driving brand transformation, enhancing strategic visibility, and managing stakeholder engagement across diverse sectors, including financial services, telecommunications, media, and international development.

Having joined FirstBank in 2011, Ijabiyi has been serving in an acting capacity as the Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications since December 2024, leading up to his recent confirmation.

In his substantive role, he will spearhead the development and execution of integrated marketing and corporate communications strategies across the entire FirstBank Group’s markets. 

His responsibilities encompass overseeing brand and reputation management, executive positioning, Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CR&S), as well as strategic communication initiatives strictly aligned with the bank’s overarching business objectives and growth aspirations.

Prior to assuming his current leadership role, Ijabiyi held several key positions within FirstBank’s Marketing and Corporate Communications Department, including Head of Brand Strategy and Special Projects, Head of Digital Marketing, and Head of Brand and Stakeholder Management.

Before joining FirstBank, Ijabiyi established a diverse and successful career at leading organizations such as the British Council, Multichoice, MTN, and Etisalat Nigeria (now 9mobile), where he played instrumental roles in brand building, corporate communications, and digital transformation initiatives.

Widely respected in the industry for his strategic insight, leadership prowess, and innate ability to translate complex business goals into impactful communication strategies, Ijabiyi has successfully led major corporate initiatives. 

These include milestone anniversary campaigns and comprehensive brand refresh programs, while consistently driving operational efficiencies and enhancing overall brand equity.

Ijabiyi holds a Master’s degree in Public and International Affairs from the University of Lagos and a Bachelor’s degree in English Language from the former Ondo State University, Ado Ekiti (now Ekiti State University). 

He is a distinguished Fellow of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) and a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), among other professional bodies.
