The Igbo Youth Leaders and Stakeholders Assembly has issued a strong rebuttal following viral social media reports claiming that the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator John Mbata, called for armed mobilization among Igbo men, reports ITREALMS.
In a formal statement released on Sunday, February 8, 2026, and available to ITREALMS, the assembly dismissed the allegations as malicious propaganda and "fake news" specifically designed to blackmail the leadership of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization and destabilize the South-East region.
The assembly’s leader, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, emphasized that Senator Mbata has remained consistent in his advocacy for peace and constitutional order, asserting that at no time did the President-General encourage violence or the taking up of arms.
The group warned that such sensitive misinformation is not only misleading but poses a severe threat to national security, especially as the region continues to grapple with complex security challenges.
In a direct appeal to law enforcement, the Igbo Youth Assembly called on the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Inspector-General of Police, and the Department of State Services (DSS) to launch a full-scale investigation into the origin of the fraudulent statement.
The stakeholders stressed that those behind the digital disinformation must be brought to justice to prevent the further escalation of tensions within the South-East and the country at large.
While acknowledging the persistent concerns regarding insecurity, the assembly advocated for political dialogue and non-violent engagement as the only sustainable paths to peace.
The group also lauded ongoing developmental initiatives across the region, urging federal and state authorities to deepen their collaboration with local stakeholders to ensure that progress is not derailed by "external actors" and digital saboteurs intent on misrepresenting the official position of the Ndigbo leadership.
