Emadeb Petroleum Exploration & Production Company Limited (Emadeb E&P) has announced a significant achievement in Nigeria’s upstream oil and gas sector: the commencement of commercial production, or "First Oil," from the Ibom Field (PPL 236), reports ITREALMS.
This successful activation, which follows sustained investment and rigorous technical effort, firmly establishes Emadeb E&P as a fully integrated energy player and highlights the increasingly vital role of indigenous operators in advancing Nigeria's energy security and driving economic diversification.
This success, ITREALMS gathered, directly aligns with the Federal Government of Nigeria's aspiration to substantially increase the nation's crude oil output.
ITREALMS recalls that the Ibom Field, originally discovered in 1979 and situated approximately 30 kilometres offshore, holds a substantial in-place volume of 103 million barrels of oil.
Since acquiring the field during the 2020 Marginal Field Bid Round, Emadeb E&P has strategically committed over $100 million to a phased field development programme, securing official regulatory approval for the Field Development Plan (FDP) from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) in November 2024.
The journey to First Oil involved critical technical milestones, including the successful drilling and completion of the Ibom-03 well in September 2023, the integration of a Mobile Producing Offshore Unit (MOPU) in June 2025, and the commissioning of the Ibom Field Mooring System in September 2025, culminating in First Oil being achieved in October 2025.

The Ibom Field development, Olujimi said, stands as a premier example of successful marginal field commercialisation, showcasing effective collaboration between the private sector and government institutions, and acting as a testament to what is achievable when strategic intent meets execution excellence in indigenous capacity development.
Looking ahead, Emadeb E&P, the CEO said, is already focused on Phase 2 development, which entails drilling two additional wells that are projected to triple the field's production by Q4 2026.
The company, Olujimi further said, remains dedicated to maintaining operational excellence, prioritizing environmental stewardship, safety, and constructive community engagement throughout its expanding operations.
