Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sokoto has been confirmed as the keynote speaker for the public presentation and official launch of three new books by renowned journalist, intellectual, and former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Reuben Abati, reports ITREALMS.
The distinguished event will take place on Friday, November 7, 2025, and significantly coincides with Dr. Reuben Abati’s 60th birthday celebration.
The gathering serves as an opportunity to reflect on the impactful career of a media icon who has remained focused and dedicated to national development throughout his career.
The presentation will feature the official launch of three distinct works, published by Caltop Publications Nigeria Limited.
The books set to be unveiled include Portraits: People, Politics and Society, a collection of analyses on national issues; A Love Letter & Other Stories, a creative work; and How Goodluck Jonathan Became President, an insider account of recent political history.
The event ITREALMS gathered, has been scheduled to commence at 10:00 AM prompt at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), located on Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah’s selection as the keynote speaker is fitting, given his extensive contributions to intellectual discourse and public service.
ITREALMS recalls that Kukah holds a PhD from the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and has an impressive history of engagement in national affairs. His publications include Religious Militancy and Self-Assertion: Islam and Politics in Nigeria and Broken Truths: Nigeria's Elusive Quest for National Cohesion.
Furthermore, Bishop Kukah served as a member of the Nigerian Investigation Commission of Human Rights Violations between 1999 and 2001, acted as the secretary of the National Political Reform Conference in 2005, and has since 2005, served as the chairman of the Ogoni-Shell Reconciliation.
He currently convenes the National Peace Committee, established in 2014 to facilitate credible and peaceful general elections in Nigeria.
