The management of Realnews Magazine and Publications Limited, publishers of Realnews Magazine Online, has announced that Honourable Justice Ayotunde Phillips, former Chief Judge of Lagos State, will chair the Realnews 13th anniversary lecture scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Isaac John Street, Ikeja GRA, Lagos, reports ITREALMS.
In her message of acceptance dated September 22, 2025, Justice Phillips expressed her delight at being invited to preside over the lecture series, stating: “It is my honour to chair such a distinguished event.”
Justice Phillips, who served as the 14th Chief Judge and the fourth female Chief Judge of Lagos State, has had a remarkable judicial career spanning nearly four decades. Her extensive service includes chairing the Panel of Inquiry into the sale of Lagos State Government shares in Eko Hotels Ltd in 1999, membership in the Advisory Committee of the Nigeria Rule of Law Assistance Project (2000–2004), and serving on Election Petition Tribunals in Rivers and Adamawa States.
She also held key administrative and judicial leadership positions, including Probate Judge (2001–2004), Administrative Judge of the Ikeja Judicial Division (2009–2010), and Head Judge of the Lagos High Court (2010–2012). On June 14, 2012, she was sworn in as Chief Judge of Lagos State and retired in 2014 after 38 years of public service, 20 of which were on the High Court Bench.
Her Ladyship later served as Chairman of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) from 2016 to 2021, overseeing local government elections. Internationally, she has been a member of the FIFA Ethics Committee (Adjudicatory Chamber) since 2017 and was recently re-elected for a third four-year term.
Justice Phillips (née Williams) was born on July 26, 1949, in London, England, to the late Justice James Oladipo Williams and Mrs. Henrietta Aina Williams, making her a second-generation judge. Beyond the Bench, she has a passion for technology, travel, music, and community service.
She is affiliated with several professional and faith-based organizations, including the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ), Nigerian Association of Women Judges (NAWJN), FIDA, World Jurist Association (WJA), and the Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges Association (CMJA).
She also serves as the Deputy Chancellor of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Diocese of Lagos West, and is a fellow of both the Nigerian Institute of Arbitrators and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK).
