The fourth edition of Vision First, a flagship health program of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), kicked off in Mushin Local Council Development Area of Lagos State on July 7, reports ITREALMS.
On the first day, over 40 eye surgeries were conducted, and more than 700 people from Mushin and other parts of Lagos received various forms of healthcare.
The five-day outreach, organized in collaboration with Kolmarg Eyesight Foundation, was formally declared open on July 8 at a ceremony attended by officials from NNPC, SNEPCo, Lagos State Government, and community leaders.
SNEPCo Managing Director, Ronald Adams, emphasized the company's commitment to social investment, stating,
"This year's outreach is particularly special, as it is supported by the Bonga North Project as part of its social investment commitments."
The Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NUIMS, Oluwaseyi Omotowa, also said, "This initiative embodies our commitment to improving the health and well-being of communities where we operate."
The Vision First program has made significant impact since its inception in 2022, reaching over 4,000 individuals, distributing nearly 2,000 eye glasses, and providing vision-restoring procedures to nearly 200 people.
The program is part of NNPC/SNEPCo's broader social investments, which have improved lives in internally displaced camps, rebuilt hospital wards and educational institutions, and provided scholarships and cancer treatment equipment.
