An update has emerged on the collusion of a passengers train and a Lagos State staff bus with registration no 04A- 48LA, which left more than six persons dead, reports

The accident, ITREALMS gathered, happened between 7am and 7.30am at the popular PWD axis of Ikeja, Lagos with a bus identified as '33' purportedly moving employees of the state from Isolo to Alausa.

This is coming as the state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has declared a three-day mourning with flags on half-mast and half work day for tomorrow, Friday, 10, March, 2023, for civil servants, whereas suspending campaign for three (3) days.

ITREALMS, the governor after visiting victims at the emergency centre of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, said there were many casualties.

"The Bus is a Staff bus of the Lagos State Govt and occupants are mostly civil servants," he lamented.

Although the driver of the unfortunate bus survived, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu revealed that he is now in Police custody and preliminary report has showed that its was driver's error, while occupants were mostly civil servants and dependents.

Also, Gov. Sanwo-Olu said that more update is expected from the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), he confirmed that the bus had on board, some 85 passengers as at the time of the accident with six (6) death recorded; 2 brought in dead, as announced by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), while four (4) more died at the hospital.

Other casualties, he said, include 42 moderate injuries, 29 serious injuries and eight (8) mild injuries.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu thanked the LASEMA, Security agencies, Staff and Students of LASUTH for the response … Mr Governor also thanked the Staff of Lagos State Government for showing up for their loved ones and also encouraging them to be hopeful.

Equally, Governor Sanwoolu expressed thank to his fellow contestants, Mr Gbadebo Rhodes Vivor and Azeez Olajide Adeniran for coming to the hospital to also commiserate with the victims and the State Government.

ITREALMS recalled that earlier, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment department, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, noted that LASTMA enforcement officers were the first emergency responder at the scene of the accident who called other emergency responders and at present rescue activities are currently on-going.

The accident recorded many casualties as the staff bus is fully loaded with govt staffs going to office this morning.
