Buhari commissions Lekki Port amidst .com - ITREALMS

ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!

Nigeria's President, General Muhammadu Buhari, retired,
has commissioned the Lekki Port worth $1.5 billion against the backdrop of being hosted on .com, reports ITREALMS.
With Lekki Port also known as Lekki Deep Sea Port on .com, industry observers said speaks volume of lack of patronage for the Nigeria country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) dot NG.

Chief Technical Officer at the Lekki Deep See Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited, Mr. Steven Heukelom, earlier on Monday said the
first container vessel, CMA CGM Mozart, had landed at the port in readiness for the commission by Buhari.

As such, he declared that the Lekki Port is ready for commissioning and use.

"The port is ready!" Heukelom declared.

According to him, in the coming weeks, Lekki Freeport Terminal would ramp up the readiness tryouts with barges and a first weekly call by CMA-CGM by end of March.

He expressed confident in the project describing it as a mega port development.

"I am proud to be part of the Lekki Port team and Mega Port Development from day one and bringing it to a good (and timely!) closure," he said.

However, investigations by ITREALMS discovered that the multi-billion Public-Private Partnership by the Federal Government of Nigeria in the commercial city of Lagos is anchored online on .com instead of on any string of .NG, thereby encouraging capital flight.

A domain name, experts said, is a string that identifies a realm of administrative autonomy, authority or control within the Internet space and often used to identify services provided through the Internet, such as websites, email services and more.

Meanwhile, the project partners for the Lekki Port include the China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), Louis Berger International Company, CMA CG, whereas its shareholders comprised of CHEC, Lagos State Government, Tolaram Group and Nigerian Ports Authorities (NPA).

While CHEC owns 52.5 per cent as at the time of filing this report it means others including Lagos State government, Tolaram and NPA are sharing 47.5 per cent shares of the Lekki Deep Sea Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited.
