Court jails IGP Alkali 3-month in prison - ITREALMS

ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has been sentenced to a three-month jail term, by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Tuesday, reports ITREALMS.

The judgement was due to IGP's disobedience to an earlier court order.

Justice Mobalaji O. Olajuwon of the Federal High Court, Abuja in his ruling, stated that Alkali should be detained in prison custody for three months over an earlier order.

Olajuwon was quoted as saying that “If at the end of the three months, the contemnor remains recalcitrant and still refuses to purge his contempt, he shall be committed for another period and until he purges his contempt.”

ITREALMS recalled that one Patrick Okoli, a Police Officer who was unlawfully and compulsorily retired from the Nigerian Police Force had filed a suit against the IGP.

Further, ITREALMS gathered that following the suit, the Police Service Commission (PSC) had recommended that Okoli be reinstated into the Force, but the IGP was yet to comply.
