Search for ICANN’s CEO gains momentum

The search for the replacement of the current chief executive officer (CEO) of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), Mr. Rod Beckstrom has continued to gain momentum with the deadline given for the expression of interest by the search Committee.

The eight-man committee includes George Sadowsky (chair), Steve Crocker, Bertrand de La Chapelle, Erika Mann, Chris Disspain, Cherine Chalaby, Ray Plzak and R. Ramaraj.

According to the Director, Global Media Affairs at ICANN, Mr. Brad White in a press statement made available to ITRealms Online, at the weekend, to ensure full consideration, the committee has asked candidates for the CEO position to submit their application not later than Friday, February 17, 2012 via to CEO-icann@odgersberndtson.be.

ITRealms Online recalls that August 16, 2011, the incumbent ICANN CEO, Mr. Rod Beckstrom proclaimed his resolve to fulfill his term as ICANN’s President and CEO, which elapses on 1 July, 2012.

This has culminated in ICANN’s board discussion of CEO succession plan at the Board meeting on 17 September 2011, where they directed Board Governance Committee to recommend a slate of Board members to comprise a CEO Search Process Management Work Committee.

And at the meeting on 11 October 2011, the BGC proposed a slate of members, which the board approved to include the 8-man member listed above.

Just as at the ICANN public meeting in Dakar, the board held an open consultation on the process and criteria being used to select the next CEO for ICANN.

Particularly, ITRealms Online gathered that the board requested the Internet community’s views on the criteria and prioritization of such criteria, for the CEO to implement ICANN’s strategy for 1 July 2012 and beyond.

Given the limited time for the entire search and hiring process, the committee had set a deadline for comments of 15 November 2011. At that time, in anticipation that all input received would be used to create a job and requirements description to be used for the actual search.

Even as the Internet community members are encouraged to identify this opportunity to others who they believe would be excellent candidates for the position.
