Symantec offers new network protection solution

Symantec Corporation is offering new network protection module for communication service providers, according to the firm’s regional director for Africa, Mr. Gordon Love.

He said that its Symantec Next Generation Network Protection offers a network-based policy control and enforcement solution that would allow communication service providers to dynamically apply user preferences in a consistent fashion to a variety of services.

Also, he said, Symantec Next Generation Network Protection has been designed to increase profitability by increasing subscriber satisfaction to prevent customer churn and reducing costs associated with network misuse, malware proliferation and spam.

This solution, Mr. Love said, is part of Symantec’s tripod mobile security, management strategy and allows Symantec to seamlessly secure information from the individual to the device to the enterprise to the network.

He explained that Symantec Next Generation Network Protection enables communication service providers a single solution for policy enforcement to shape the customer experience.

“Consumer or enterprise subscribers define their own policy or controls for accessing content, data usage and rules based on criteria such as time of day while the operator manages and enforces the chosen controls across all services,” he said.

Citing for instance that a parent may chose to disable texting functionality for their child’s phone during certain hours or a corporation might disable photo sharing from mobile devices for their employee base, stressing that communication service providers could use these flexible, customizable policy features as additional revenue opportunities or as a means to differentiate themselves from competing carriers.

Mr. Love pointed out that Symantec wants to give communication service providers confidence that they are securing their customers’ information and implementing customer preferences.

“Symantec Next Generation Network Protection provides that confidence. As smart phone usage increases and mobile devices store growing volumes of valuable data, it’s vital to protect the information while allowing for the flexible creation of desired controls that enhance the value of the subscribers’ mobile experiences,” he said.

Equally, Love said, Symantec Next Generation Network Protection would provide data retention capabilities to aid with regulatory requirements and usage analysis.

Love emphasised that compliance with local regulations is simple with Symantec assisting in the
archiving of mobile messaging and Web access logs, storage of content and traffic information, mobile data traffic management and an audit history. In addition, providers can use this data to help organisations conduct their own risk analysis, financial audit, and usage and trends analysis to make better business decisions.

ITRealms Online recalls that Symantec pride itself as a global leader in providing security, storage and systems management solutions to help consumers and organisations secure and manage their information-driven world.
