Peugeot SA picks APC InfraStruXure for server room

French carmaker, Peugeot South Africa is experiencing the benefits of APC by Schneider Electric’s “data centre on demand” InfraStruXure architecture.
This, the company said has enabled it to enjoy improved cooling in its new server room.

Information Technology (IT) Manager, Alexandre Vellieux, said the company’s recent head office move precipitated its decision to investigate a new solution to improve its cooling setup. “Having relocated our head office, we needed to update the technology within our server room with a cooling component. We had already had some experience with APC products and had listed it as one of the top three companies to approach,” Vellieux said.

Pointing out that besides meeting the cooling requirements, the company has found out that InfraStruXure is also flexible enough to grow with the organisation as Peugeot SA strengthens its position in the local marketplace.

“This was an important consideration for us when looking for the right solution and why we felt that InfraStruXure was the best fit for us,” Vellieux declared.

Explaining that InfraStruXure which uses an open, building-block approach, with standardised, modular components, integrating power, and cooling has environmental management within a rack-optimised design.

Furthermore, the IT manager said, InfraStruXure’s hot-swappable modules assist in lowering mean-time-to-recovery, even as Peugeot’s InfraStruXure implementation has been completed on time.

“We have already seen a major improvement in our previously experienced cooling issues. Peugeot is also very happy with the layout of our server room – InfraStruXure’s management side has enabled us to create a very clean, orderly environment,” he said.

Also speaking, the Managing Director, Southern Africa at APC by Schneider Electric, Mr. Rodney Callaghan, noted that InfraStruXure allows users like Peugeot to install only what is required today, yet easily scales to meet future demands.

“It also increases system availability while decreasing design and install time from months to days. The solution takes a rack-based modular approach which allows it to be easily moved and facilitate quick installation and is designed to accommodate changing power densities,” he said, emphasizing that InfraStruXure architecture is suitable for environments of all sizes, from wiring closets to large data centres.
