LG reaffirms position on healthy home appliances

Global technology leader and pioneer in home appliance convergence, LG Electronics, has expanding its commitment to developing health-conscious home appliances as part of its LG HealthCare Campaign.

President of Middle East and Africa (MEA) headquarters at LG Electronics, Mr. Ki-Wan Kim, said that while global health awareness is increasing in all industries, LG is leading the premium home appliances market with products which proactively care for consumer health.

He noted that beginning from the Middle East and Africa region, where people are increasingly concerned by the significant environmental changes caused by rapid construction and development, LG is offering a new product line which enables consumers to better care for their well-being.

The company, Mr. Kim said, has chosen this region as its first market for the line based in part on a 2006 study conducted by Synovate, a global research firm.

“More than 90 percent of 1,000 people in the region who participated in the survey stated that health was one of their biggest concerns today, and that they had experienced more health-related problems over the last 12 months. Respiratory, skin and nutrition-related diseases rated as most common across the region,” he said.

Mr. Kim emphasised at the LG HealthCare Campaign recently in Dubai that LG’s launch of its healthcare line means the opening of a new era of home appliances in the market and MEA region in particular.

It would be recalled that at the event, LG introduced its full health-oriented product line including air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, light wave ovens, vacuum cleaners and air purifiers.

“In the Middle East region, health concerns are dramatically escalating due to many factors including the construction boom, increasing traffic and changes in diet. LG is expected to lead this new category of health-conscious home appliances here,” Mr. Kim said.

The chief executive, Al Yousuf Company a retailer of LG home appliances based in Dubai, Mr. Ahmed Yousuf Habib Al Yousuf, said that as usual, “LG has presented new-concept products that go beyond consumer expectations, because health concerns have become such a hot topic in the Middle East and Africa.”

Mr. Al Yousuf believes this line will generate enormous interest.

Equally, LG said it has conclude plans to expand its healthcare line products to account for 30 percent of the total home appliances market regionally, as well as double its sales revenue from the current USD 1.2 billion to USD 2.4 billion by 2010.

“With 20 percent total market share, LG already holds the top spot in the Middle East and Africa,” Mr. Kim added.

LG health-friendly products will be available from this month, May, across the Middle East and Africa, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Iran and South Africa, and will later expand to other regions.

Their bio-enzyme filter equipped air conditioner to refrigerator that keep fruits and vegetables longer and nutrition-conscious ovens, LG’s premium home appliances are designed to enhance health, not just preserve it.
