Ogun Police Command debunks herdsmen attack along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
The Ogun State Police Command has debunked herdsmen attack
along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, reports ITRealms.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State Command, ASP
Abimbola Oyeyemi, deflated the rumour making round in a press statement made
available to ITRealms, saying that the attention of Ogun State Police Command
has been once again drawn to an alleged attack by herdsmen along Lagos/Ibadan
expressway as well as an anonymous security alert letter written by a faceless
student group urging students and members of public not to travel along that
route.
As said by Oyeyemi, the faceless group also posted a
simulated voice recording on social media where some people are crying and
pleading with their alleged attackers not to kill them.
The Command, he said, would not have dignify the disgruntled
elements with a response but in order to allay the fears of public, the true
security situation along that axis has to be made known to all and sundry.
“To start with, there is no any attack by herdsmen or any
other group in all the stretch of Express Ways across and within Ogun State, we
make bold to say that the alleged attack been posted on social media is a lie
from pit of hell fire been peddled by those who are not happy with the peaceful
atmosphere in Ogun State. The picture attached to the post is a picture of an accident
which occurred about Eight years ago exactly on the 31st of July 2010 to be
precised; while the purported voice recording was a stage managed one.
“The Lagos/Ibadan express road is one of the busiest roads
in Nigeria and the Command is not oblivious of that fact, for that reason,
there has been massive deployment of Police operatives from FSARS,
Anti-Kidnapping/cultist unit, PMF as well as Conventional Policemen on
surveillance and monitoring operatives and patrols to ward off any act of
criminal activities on that road.
“In as much as there is freedom of speech as guaranteed by
the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, such freedom does not licensed
anybody to be peddling dangerous rumours that can cause breach of public peace.
In view of that, the Command is investigating those behind the senseless rumour
with the view of bringing them to justice as they can be best described as
enemy of the State,” he said.
Oyeyemi further enjoined good and peace loving people of the
State to discountenance the rumour and go about their lawful businesses without
any fear of harassment or attack from anybody or group. Any suspicious movement
or gathering should be reported to the Police and other sister security
agencies as quick as possible and quick and adequate response will be accorded
such report.

Ogun election victory: Odebiyi toasts Akeredolu
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State,
Chief Tolu Odebiyi, has toasted Barrister Rotimi Akeredolu on his emergence as
the Governor-Elect of Ondo State at the weekend, reports ITRealms.
Press statement from his media office on Monday, Odebiyi
said Akeredolu’s emergence was a reflection of the abiding faith of Nigerians
in the APC as the party capable of rescuing the country from the rot into which
the Peoples Democratic Party has thrown it.
Odebiyi equally said it was also a show of belief in the
capacity of Akeredolu to take Ondo State to the Promised Land after several
years in the hands of the opposition.
“This is a plus also for the leadership shown by President
Muhammadu Buhari in piloting the affairs of the country. It indeed is a
reflection of the belief of Nigerians in the capacity of the President and the
APC to take the country out of the doldrums despite the attempts by the
opposition to rubbish the good works being done to redeem the country,” he
said.
Also, Odebiyi applauded the leadership of the APC at the
national level to sell the programmes of the party to Nigerians.
“It is equally pertinent to congratulate the governors
elected on the platform of the APC in the South West, especially the Ogun State
Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, because their dedication to service and
delivery of democratic dividends as seen by the people must have spurred the
need for change as demanded for by the people of Ondo State with the election
of Chief Akeredolu” he said.

47 base stations unsealed in Ogun, courtesy Danbatta
An estimated 47 base stations sealed in Ogun State have been
effectively unsealed courtesy of the intervention by the Executive Vice
Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Professor Umar
Garba Danbatta, reports ITRealms.
Affirming this to ITRealms, the Head, Public Relations at NCC, Mr.
Reuben Muoka quoted the EVC as revealing this after a closed door meeting with
the state governor, Mr. Ibikunle Amosun recently in Abeokuta, however, noted
that the development would positively impact on the access to telecommunication
services in the state.
According to Danbatta, “We have also succeeded in resolving
a contentious matter leading to sealing of 47 base transceiver stations in Ogun
State. These are going to be unsealed immediately. And this would enhance, of
course, the challenge we have of providing telecom access in the state.”
Also, the professor of telecommunication engineering expressed
satisfaction with the assurances given by the governor in tackling the concerns
of multiple taxations and right of way, which are among the non-technical
factors conspiring to degrade quality of telecommunication services in the
country.
“The assurances given
by His Excellency is to ensure adherence to resolution of the National Economic
Council on multiple taxation. We have heard him. Something is going to happen.
There’s lot of excitement for infrastructure deployment in Ogun State,” Danbatta
said.
Further, Danbatta had urged the Governor Amosun to enlist
the support of other members of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) to ensure
adherence to the provisions of NEC’s resolution, which takes care of the
concerns of multiple taxations and Right of Way, among others.
“Indeed, Your Excellency, the resolution of the NEC of March
21, 2013 properly addressed the problems of multiple taxation, levies and
charges on ICT infrastructure with a view to providing a lasting solution.
Incidentally, these resolutions are largely honored more in the breach than in
their observance hence the precarious situation has not changed,” he explained.
In his response, Governor Amosun applauded Danbatta for what he described as his giant strides,
since assuming the leadership of the commission, stressed the significance of
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for the development of the
country, saying that his administration will key into these development for the
benefit of the citizenry.

Samsung smart schools target 10,000 teachers across Nigeria
The
Samsung Smart School for Teachers initiative is targeting an estimated 10,000
teachers across five states in Nigeria, namely Ogun, Rivers, Delta and Imo
respectively, reports ITRealms.
Managing
Director, Samsung Electronics West Africa, Mr. Brovo Kim, made this disclosure
at the launch of the project at Federal Government Boys College, Apo, Abuja in
partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education.
He
also said that the Samsung Smart School for Teachers in Apo would be the first

line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal to improve
education, we believe it is essential to equip teachers with basic computer
literacy, as well as the tools they need to use ICTs for curriculum development
and more impactful teaching; and the Samsung Smart School for Teachers is an important
step in achieving this,” he said.
Kim
pointed out that with the launch of the Samsung Smart School for Teachers at
the Federal Government Boys College, teachers would receive training to empower
them to access digital content, share it with students, monitor students’
progress and conduct assessments.
ITRealms recalls that the initiative is part of Samsung’s global efforts to use
technology to increase the quantity of students who have access quality
learning materials and facilities, as well as to improve the quality of education
given out by tutors.

of the newly appointed Federal Minister of Education, Mr. Adamu Adamu, the
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan expressed
her excitement about the impact this will have on education in Abuja. She
recognized and applauded Samsung’s effort and contribution towards ICT
development within the country.
“We
are indeed grateful to Samsung for tapping into the goal of the ministry of
education to train quality teachers. We encourage all beneficiaries of this
project to take full ownership of the project and let the improved quality of
teaching reflect in our students’ results” she said, urging stakeholders in the
education sector to partner with the ministry of education to salvage the
country’s educational system.
