Buhari to commission new operational vehicles for FRSC

The President, Muhammadu Buhari is set to commission a set of new operational vehicles for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abuja on Monday, May 16, 2016, reports ITRealms.

Head, Media Relations and Strategy at FRSC, Mr. Bisi Kazeem, confirmed to ITRealms that President Buhari, who is the Special Guest of Honour, is expected to perform this grand breaking resolve of FRSC at the Peace Park beside International Conference Centre, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Kazeem also said that the commissioning is in line with the determination of the Boboye Oyeyemi-led agency readiness to enthrone safer motoring environment for members of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

He also revealed that some of the vehicles ready for commissioning include operational vehicles, heavy duty tow truck and ambulances, even as the event has been designed in partial fulfillment of the Corps’ drive to achieve the 2016 corporate strategic goals which seeks to reduce road traffic crashes by 15 per cent and fatalities by 25 per cent.

Speaking further, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi was quoted as saying that the occasion “will symbolise the sustained intent of the Federal Government to raise the bar on road safety management and collective dedication to the task of exploring innovative and resourceful ways of funding the road safety intervention in the road sector.”

He stressed that the patrol vehicles and ambulances will be distributed along major corridors as part of measures to enhance road safety management and increase safety enforcement strategies in the country.

“Our determination in this regard cannot and will not in the least be compromised because the lives of our citizens, using these roads is vital to our socio-economic renewal and indeed national transformation,” he assured.

Oyeyemi emphasised that in the resolve to address the menace of road traffic crashes, the Corps applies series of integrated measures including crash prevention, enforcement, awareness raising and post-crash medical care to create meaningful measurable improvement along major highways.
