Protesting subscribers sack MTN offices in Benin City, Surulere-Lagos

… Inviting Police will not solve problem

Angry subscribers protesting at the MTN offices in Benin City and Surulere-Lagos, shut the outlets following pockets of uncoordinated display of violence by some telecom subscribers in the region, reports ITRealms.

According to reports reaching ITRealms newsroom, the MTN office at Bode Thomas Street in Surulere and also at Benin City were Wednesday afternoon attacked by irate subscribers who allegedly protested over blocking of their mobile phone lines in compliance with the directive of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Although it took the presence of armed policemen to calm the protesting subscribers with tear-gas at about 3pm at both Surulere in Lagos and Benin City.

Some of the protesters claimed that they have registered and re-registered on several occasions and have every course to get offended.

For some, they claimed making use of their mobile phone lines the previous night only to wake up to see it has been barred and they were requested to report to the nearest MTN office for ractification.

At Benin City, the manager of the MTN office was said to have promised to attend to the teeming subscribers without any tangible action to that pledge.

As a press time, there is no official response from MTN Nigeria, but Policemen were still keeping watch at the both locations in Surulere in Lagos and Benin City, even as some subscribers have hinted that invitation to Police would not save the situation unless MTN unbars their lines.
