Chief Executive Officer, Geoid Telecommunications Ltd (Geoidtel), one of Nigeria’s leading internet service providers, Mr. Olubiyi Ismail, has been confirmed as a speaker at the West and Central AfricaCom conference and exhibition slated for next month in Dakar Senegal.

This year’s edition of the West and Central AfricaCom has been scheduled to hold between June 15 and 16 at the Le Meridian, Dakar, Senegal.

ITRealms Online gathered that Mr. Ismail will speak at the panel session on “Building the infrastructure to connect the region – what next?”

He will be assessing the improvement in regional connectivity and the impact of the submarine cables, in addition to speaking on requirements from regulatory and governmental initiatives to support the building of infrastructure.

Ismail in a press statement confirming this development to ITRealms Online, said he will also speak on the optimisation of the optical transport layer; touching on key areas such as capacity, connectivity and cabling infrastructure.

Further discussions panel session, he said, will focus on the distribution of the capacity inland, whether by satellite or cable.

Other esteemed speakers expected to join Ismail on the panel session are Omar Trujillo, Regional Vice President, Africa, 03b Networks; Nicolas Baravalle, Vice President Sales Africa, SES as well as Sabine Devinck of Global Information and Communications Technologies of the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

Commenting on this, Ismail said he is honoured on the invitation to share knowledge on regional connections and telecom infrastructure.

“... I believe the topic is apt given the importance attached to the various ICT initiatives geared towards improved telecom infrastructural development especially across the West African continent,” he said.

For him, the West and Central AfricaCom is an ideal forum for discussions on the various issues affecting the region’s telecom sector.

“It also offers immense networking opportunity for operators to exchange ideas on how best to improve not only telecommunications, but the ICT sector in general,” Ismail noted.

ITRealms Online recalls that Mr. Ismail has become a regular speaker at the AfricaCom events including the 2010 edition of the West and Central AfricaCom which held at the same venue. Due to what Informa Telecom and Media, organisers of the event described as his insightful commentary and detailed analysis of the Nigerian telecom sector, he was invited to speak at the AfricaCom conference and exhibition held at the Cape Town International Conference Centre, Cape Town in November last year. At the same event, Geoidtel was nominated as Best New Entrant at the 2010 edition of the AfricaCom Awards.
