NCC may lead ATCON to broadband forum

LEADERSHIP of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) may lead the nation’s delegation to the forthcoming Broadband forum slated to hold in South Africa.

Disclosing this, the president, Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Mr. Titi Omo-Ettu, said that they have received green lights for NCC to lead the delegation to the forum in Bryanston, South Africa, as requested earlier by ATCON.

He said, the mission to comprise Nigerian entrepreneurs would enable them to meet with their foreign counterparts to compare notes and sign technical partnership and investment relationships.

Omo-Ettu attributed the green light to NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Dave Imoko, saying that ATCON has been informed the Commission would be leading an initiative to send a delegation of industry players as well as local entrepreneurs to South Africa, so as to afford them the prospect of having access to foreign partnership and investment which the Commission duly approved.

He confirmed that ‘Top executives of the Commission would lead the Nigerian delegates to the Broadband Forum which scheduled to take place in Bryanston, South
Africa from October 4 to 6, 2010’.

Industry initiatives like this, he said, serve to raise awareness and augment expertise in the domestic industry thus raising the level of indigenous participation in investment, provision and spread of broadband infrastructure and services in the country.

Reaffirming that ATCON approached the Commission to spearhead the industry’s effort to propagate and perpetuate collaboration amongst potential investors.

“The involvement of our much-respected regulator optimizes our efforts and earns us the respect of the international community safe in the knowledge that we have the backing of our government,” he said.

Further, he stressed that with the right framework and will, such investments inevitably would transform into job creation, increased access at reduced costs to the common subscriber which is the platform for growth and sustainability.
