Ndukwe allays fear over mobile phone emissions

Mobile phone don’t pose the kind of danger like people think but caution is the word,” according to the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Ernest Ndukwe.

He made this assertion at the 51st session of the telecom consumer parliament, which held last weekend at Eko Club, Surulere, Lagos.

Ndukwe also advised Nigerians, mostly telecom consumers in the country to be cautious of the kind of information they absorb as not everything or claims made by anti-progress people are not true.

Also speaking at the event the national president, Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, said, let us not just talk about the hazards of mobile phones alone, but also focus on the good things the technology came with.

Responding to the question on the possibilities of mobile phones causing explosion a physicist, Mr. Ayo Ibetoye, noted that the rumour over mobile phone emission, especially over explosion from a mobile battery, saying it is yet to be proved with empirical evidence.

Another question that came up was about the fact that mobile phones could cause infertility, which he said, there is no evidence of such cause, but advised that every child should have mobile phone in case of any emergency.

ITRealms Online recalls that the 51st edition of the Telecom Consumer Parliament is hosted by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The monthly Telecom Consumer Parliament is a forum where consumers of telecom services are given the opportunity to interact with the telecom service providers and the regulator, to discuss issues confronting them in the use of their services and to find ways to resolve them.

According to the Head, Public Affairs, Mr. Reuben Muoka, said the 51st edition of the event would deal with the services of both fixed and mobile operators, including issues relating to quality of services, consumer rights, new services in the various networks, and other issues germane to the consumer’s satisfaction in the use of telecom services in the country.
