e-Inclusion is platform for bridging digital gap – Ilukwe

Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone Plc, Mr. Gerald Ilukwe, has called on the Commonwealth member states to embrace Information and Communications Technology (ICT) as a platform for bridging the poverty gap in their regions., reports OLUCHI KALU UKWA.

Galaxy Backbone Plc, is a public sector of the Federal Government established to provide a common platform for he provision of network connectivity and transversal services to the public sector.

Ilukwe while commending the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO), Federal ministry of Information and Communications and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), for organizing the upcoming CTO ICT summit taking place from October 6 to 10, 2008, in Abuja, noted that it is an avenue for the Federal Government to appreciate the role of ICT in the country as well as prove its commitment to the country’s uptake of the benefits of the digital revolution going on, the world over.

Furthermore, he highlighted the significance between the theme of this year’s event and that of the company’s as geared towards ensuring effective connectivity for a socially inclusive and commercially vibrant society.

This, he said, was sealed by the recent signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Galaxy Backbone and Nigerian Postal Services for the provision of broadband connectivity to all of the 1,500 post offices across the country.

He further stated that this event will afford the company to showcase its main objective of delivering e-education, e-health, e-agriculture and e-government solution through i-Gov.net platform and National Information Communication and Education Programme (NICEP) network.

It will also offer opportunities for the company to secure partnerships with leading ICT establishments, bandwidth wholesalers, equipment vendors, funding and development partners and solution providers.
