ITWorld, NCC join forces on broadband forum

ITWorld International has joined forces with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and Ericsson to host a forum on broadband as part of its second African Telecoms, Internet, Computer & Courier Congress (AFRITECC-08) holding in Lagos later this month.

AFRITECC is the brain child of ITWorld International magazine, aimed at provoking far reaching insights into the affiliated services in the country and West African sub region. It also has been endorsed by the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Association of Licensed Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ALTON), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).

A press statement made available to Champion Infotel by the chief executive of ITWorld, Mr. Enyi Nwagu, the two-day conference would open with a session of Africa’s premier mobile wireless gathering, expected to exhaust relevant burning issues by stakeholders in the telecoms and mobile wireless industry to accelerate broadband connections in the country.

The organizers also said that the event scheduled to take place between August 20 and 21 would be declared open by the Minister of State for Information and Communications, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki Nakande, at the Golden Gate Restaurants Ikoyi, Lagos.
This year’s event, the organizers said, would dedicate a day to discuss broadband access, penetration and projected feasible contribution to the deepening of telecom revolution in the country.

Equally, the discussion would dwell on the imperative of broadband on Nigeria’s future as well as draw attention to the various efforts by service providers and regulatory authority to accelerate broadband access in the country.
“Already, the NCC has declared broadband access as the next revolution in the sector. Issues of connectivity, pricing, quality of service will be on the front burner at the conference as government officials, the NCC, informed stakeholders and operators will make presentations,” Nwagu said.

The Executive Vice Chairman, NCC, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, Managing Director, L.M. Ericsson Nigeria, Mr. Leif Edwall, Postmaster-General of NIPOST, Mallam Ibrahim Mori Baba, National President, ATCON, Dr. Emma Ekuwem; Chairman, ALTON, Mr. Gbenga Adebayo, President, Nigeria Internet Group (NIG), Mr. Lanre Ajayi and Head, Courier Regulatory Dept (CRD), Dr. Simon Emeje, among others have been named as dignitaries lined up for the event.

The organizers said that the first edition was a huge success as it afforded industry players the leverage to address important key issues that affect their industry.
