MultiChoice enhances channel numbering, grouping

Leader in broadcast technology innovation, MultiChoice has announced the enhanced channel numbering and grouping within its service offering on the continent, reports CHARLES OKOH.

Public Relations Manager, MultiChoice Nigeria, Mr. Segun Fayose who disclosed this at the weekend in a press statement made available to Champion Infotel, said this follows the implementation of the channel shuffle six months ago, which came as part of customer feedback, hence the improvement on its Digital Satellite Television (DStv) channels.

As said by him, the mission of MultiChoice is to constantly make better its customers’ control and pleasure of their television viewing experience.

Fayose added that the new numbering and grouping plan would be effective from Wednesday last week across all platforms.

“The latest changes will be implemented on May 1, 2008 across all platforms and including the refinement of movies, general entertainment and the news and commerce genres. All other genres will remain in their current position,” he said.

Equally, he said, that as part of MultiChoice’s focus on customer satisfaction, the channel shuffle would enhance subscriber’s viewing and help make premium content easier to use.

For instance, he said, that movies and general entertainment would be merged into one category with the channel numbers still starting from 100.

“M-Net stays in the same position at 101, but will now be followed by M-Net Magic 1 (MM1), M-Net Magic 2 (MM2) and M-Net Stars on channel numbers 103, 104 and 105 respectively,” he explained.

Fayose pointed out that one of the important recommendations from subscribers is to number the key genres in a manner that is easier to remember, such as in multiples of 100, for example, the movies and general entertainment: 100’s, Sport: 200’s, Kids: 300’s and News: 400’s.

“As a result, News and Commerce channels will be moved from 280 to 400. This means that BBC World will be changed to 400, CNN 401, Sky News 402 and so on,” he said.

Expressing the believe that these changes would provide subscribers with enhanced navigation and seamless channel surfing, which would have a positive impact on the overall viewing experience.
