Vision 2020: Nigeria on threshold of growth - Seriki

Nigeria is on the threshold of fastest economic growth with the proposed Vision 2020 agenda, says the chief executive, Omatek Computers Limited, Mrs. Florence Seriki.

Speaking at the recently held one-day workshop on cyber café survival in Nigeria, held in Lagos, Mrs. Seriki said that she strongly believes that with the new agenda of Vision 2020, Nigeria would be positioned on the thresholds of making impact in the world as one of the fastest growing economy.

She also pointed out that all hands must be on the deck to ensure the success of this dream.

“It makes it highly imperative therefore that the minutest details are taken into consideration to ensure that the country does not miss out in this noble dream,” she declared.

According to Mrs. Seriki represented at the occasion by the chief marketing officer (CMO) Omatek, Mr. Biyi Fasoyin, the impact of telecoms revolution in the country is evident, mostly with the over $100 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) it has generated.

She noted that with adequate political will and good policy capable of protecting and ensuring deployment of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) tools in all sectors of economy, the current investment could be doubled in the next two years.

She lamented the situation whereby Nigerian still use obsolete and substandard computers, saying it is disturbing because of attendant dangers.

“It will pose as one of the greatest bottle necks that will make it impossible for the country to realise its vision of becoming one of the 20 economies of the world in 2020,” she said.

Mrs. Seriki explained that the reason for this would be that most Nigerians would not be able to compete favourably with the rest of the world due to defective tools.

“Tools next to human capacity can be regarded as the ultimate as far as ICT development is concerned,” she said.

She stressed that using what is known in the local parlance as Tokunbo, does not augur well for the nation, adding “using these inferior items is more expensive than buying one good quality.”
