NICOMM-07 gathers global experts in Lagos

Worldwide experts in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) market would from Monday, October 22, this year, converge in the commercial nerve centre of the nation, Lagos, for the Nigerian Communication (NICOMM) expo.

The trade show being organised by the umbrella body of telecom companies in the country, the Association of Telecom Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), has been planned to avail participants the opportunity of exploring investment opportunities in the Nigerian telecommunications and information technology sector as well as showcase the latest technologies and Value Added Services (VAS) in the global ICT market.

The Executive Secretary, ATCON, Mr. Godwin Morgan, said the group’s efforts, is yielding good dividend for the event, especially in recent participation of some of its key personnel at COMPUTEX 2007 in Taiwan, GITEX Dubai 2007 and just ended WiMAX World 2007 in Chicago, United States.

The organisers of NICOMM 2007 exhibition and conference which is on its 12 edition, noted that ATCON officials were able to market NICOMM 2007 to a good number of world-class technology providers and event managers who have indicated interest to participate in the event.

He cited for instance, Motorola and Redline - world leading WiMAX technology providers , saying they have registered their participation in NICOMM 2007.

Additionally, a multinational event management outfit has agreed to partner with ATCON in making NICOMM a world-class event.

“NICOMM has equally received the support of the WiMAX Forum, which will be sending delegates to participate in the event,” he said.

According to him some side attractions at NICOMM-07 expo will include new products launch by various participating companies.

Opportunities, Mr. Morgan said, have been created for companies having new products to launch to the high net-worth audience at the event, stressing that those wishing to relaunch repackaged products and services would equally be given opportunities to do so.

He pointed that even the banks, have viable opportunities to introduce new e-transaction packages to a highly discerning public, just as ICT training entities could take advantage of the expo to run a crash programmes within the duration of the event.

They will be leveraging on the large turn out of guests at the event to market their human capacity building programmes and meet potential trainees/students in an informal but very interactive setting.

Eliciting ATCON president, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, said the development is rewarding that a country like Nigeria and acknowledged for being the biggest ICT market in Africa.

“The fastest growing mobile communications market in the continent, endowed with a population of about 150 million people, vast geographic space, stable democratic polity, boisterous economy, strong purchasing power, and undisputedly the smart investors’ preferred destination in Africa is beginning to take its proper place in the global ICT market,” he said.

And encouraged by the successes achieved in marketing Nigeria’s ICT potentials in the international front, Dr. Ekuwem revealed, he would be appearing before the Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce & Industry in Taipei next week to make a presentation on the abundant and untapped opportunities in the Nigerian ICT sector.
