Motorola, others root for stakeholders forum

Leading mobile communications equipment manufacturer, Motorola is leading the pack of supporters for the second annual Stakeholders Forum billed to take place in Lagos, next week.

Champion Infotel, gathered that other telecom giants slated to participate at the forum as a show of their support comprise of Alcatel, and Alvarion among others.

Also, Champion Infotel investigations showed that even the industry regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has identified Motorola, Alcatel, and Alvarion as telcos who are leading in broadband deployment globally.

Source at NCC informed that these companies have the capabilities to show their technological prowess in the broadband segment.

“Essentially, the commission is using the forum to ensure that manufacturers are adequately prepared for the nation’s next big Information and Communication Technology (ICT) move and that is broadband internet,” our source declared.

Other ICT companies that have shown interest in taking active part at this year’s forum include Redline Telecom and Echotel Global Wireless Communications, Philips Projects Centre Limited, NetCom Africa Limited and Direct On PC to name a few.

Speaking on the preparation, Editor-in-chief of the collaborating organization, IT & Telecom Digest, Mr. Mkpe Abang, said plans are in high gear and enthusiasm from anticipated participants, are encouraging.

He recalled that last year, his organisation initiated the forum as a means of creating awareness on new and emerging technologies as well as a medium through which the forerunners of the country’s emerging telecom boom, namely the regulator, equipment vendors and manufacturers, operators, and the general public; could brainstorm on topical issues affecting the telecom industry.

He noted that the nucleus of the first edition was on the Unified Licensing Regime – the Way Forward, in which the country’s former Communications Minister, Chief Cornelius Adebayo gave a keynote address, while Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), NCC, delivered the lead paper.
