Adenuga Group sweeps City People Awards

Chairman, Mike Adenuga Group (MA Group), Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr. and two corporate entities of the group, Globacom Limited and Conoil Plc, bagged the highest number of awards over the weekend at the 10th edition of the City People Awards that held in Lagos.

At the event, chairman of the group, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr. was honoured with the Special Lifetime Achievement Award, while Globacom got the Brand of The Year Award and Conoil voted the Oil Marketing Company of the Year, just as one of its products, Quatro emerged the Lubricant of the Year.

The judges in the citation of Dr. Adenuga, described him as Africa’s number one businessman with substantial investments in oil, banking, telecoms, aviation and manufacturing and real estate.

According to them, his entrepreneurial agility has created thousands of jobs and revolutionised the way business is done in Nigeria and Africa in general, thus, making him a well respected international businessman.

On Globacom, the telecommunications giant, the judges said that it beat other nominees in the banking, telecoms and manufacturing sectors to emerge as the Brand of the Year.

The award is in recognition that Globacom, which operates mobile, fixed, gateway and broadband licenses, is leading brand not only in the telecoms sector, but also in the broad spectrum of Nigerian industries in the last one year.

Industry watchers equally said the latest Globacom award as the Brand of the Year did not take them unawares, especially since the network had in the last one year made landmark achievements, extending its coverage to major towns, cities, highways and communities in Nigeria.

Equally, it was gathered that this milestone was marked with a nationwide campaign tagged “We Live Where You Live”.

Daily Champion recalls that in the last one year the company has launched one of the most revolutionary Value Added Service (VAS) in the telecoms sector, Blackberry, which is still the only of its kind in the Nigerian market, even as its subscriber base has grown to over 12 million.
