CANi commends Zinox on first roll-out

Remmy Nweke

HEAD, Product and Vendor Management Computer for All Nigerians Initiative (CANi), Mr. Seye Obisesan has described as remarkable the Zinox Computer’s feat to produce the first ever batch of systems for the project.

Zinox Computers, manufacturers of Nigeria’s first internationally certified branded computers had recently rolled out computers under the CANi initiative to concretise the vision.
The systems included laptops, desktops, which all had World Class quality.

Speaking at the event Mr. Obisesan had commended Zinox Computers for being the first to respond to the CANi project and declared “these were the very first ever CANi systems to be ever produced”. He praised Zinox for maintaining its hallmark of excellence.

In her response, CEO of Computerize Nigeria Project, CNP, Mrs. Vivian Abii said that the resolve to make CANi a success is deep rooted and watered by the altruistic quest to place a computer on every available table in Nigeria, be it in a school, at home or at work.

Mrs. Abii explained that from the launch of the CNP on October 9, 2001, her NGO has invested huge resources in drumming up support for the adoption of the computer as a work tool that is very vital for national development.

Mrs. Abii explained that the timely rollout of the CANi systems signified the preparedness of Zinox Computers to deliver on large numbers within short periods.

It is a testimonial to the tireless efforts from Zinox to increase its production capacity to satisfy the obviously desperate IT needs of Nigeria and West Africa. Mrs. Vivian Abii observed that guided by the vision of the founding fathers that Zinox has mobilized resources, human and financial, to consolidate her position as a source of national pride.

It would be recalled that on August 6, 2006, the President of the Federal Republic, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, launched the computer for All Nigerians Initiative (CANi).

The initiative is a government assisted PC Purchase Programme (GAPP) designed to expand the usage of computers and information technology in Nigeria. CANi is a public private partnership between the federal government represented by NITDA, industry giants like Intel, Microsoft, Zinox, some other PC manufacturers and financial houses.
