MNet launches Edge of Paradise

Remmy Nweke

Leading Digital Satellite Television (DSTV) company, M-Net, has launched a new family home entertainment series, Edge of Paradise into the nation’s market.

Public Relations Manager at MultiChoice Nigeria, Mr. Segun Fayose, disclosed that the “one family… one home…one future!” is an hour weekly series for the next 26 weeks on M-Net.
To be streamed every Monday evening, Mr. Fayose informed that it revolves around a modern Nigerian family as they experience life’s triumphs, trials and tests.
Created by Femi Kayode and produced for M-Net by the Nigerian production company of Royal Roots, headed up by Gregory and Debbie Odutayo, Edge of Paradise looks at contemporary issues facing Africans.
“From unemployment, injustice and adversity to education, equality and the search for identity, the series is a stirring look at one family’s attempt to navigate their world” he said.
As said by Allison Triegaardt, M-Net Head of Content for Sub-Saharan Africa, Edge of Paradise is relevant viewing for audiences looking for authentic African family viewing.
“This series is wholly built around a fundamental concept of African life – the idea that family is the cornerstone of our world. The sense of community and of unity created by families is a belief that resonates for Africans everywhere. M-
Net recognized the need to tell the story of an African family and committed to it.”
Edge of Paradise begins when father of three, Emeka Anyanwu loses his job. Now faced with the task of raising his children and finding employment, Emeka and his wife Asabe must come to terms with the new battles ahead. And as their father tries to find a means to support his family, his children Dozie, Obinna and Adaora take on their own personal challenges.
For teenage son Dozie, fresh out of school and with a passion for football, questions about the future abound.
Meanwhile pretty daughter Adaora begins to understand the intricacies of young love whilst clever, youngest born Obinna learns to deal with schoolroom struggles.

At the heart of the family though is Asabe. Mother, wife and friend, she is the dynamic centre of the Anyanwu home. A teacher by profession, she guides, supports and persuades her family into striving for a better life.
Criticized by a mother-in-law who has never understood her son’s decision to marry outside of his ethnic group and driven by a need to provide the best home possible, Asabe is a ferocious protector of her family’s future.

The cast of Edge of Paradise ar the most professional Nigerian cast in the last 20years. There is still hope for the Nigerian TV industry after all.

I can't get enough of the program, I wish they had more re-runs during the week.

Perhaps because the cast are Nigerian like I am, I find myself completely involved in the blow by blow action.

The scripting & storylines are 1st class and all the actors 99.999% convincing. Quality of editing & production shows attention to detail.

What else can I say, the team of Edge of Paradise can only get better!

A job well done, keep it up.

I was in Nigeria last year and started watching Edge of Paradise.

It definitely rocks!

I'm wondering if DVD series for all seasons could be made available to fans outside Africa?

Thanks.
Vicky
